I definitely recommend this little gem! We didn’t have a lot of time to explore but next visit we will allow for more time here! Beautiful scenery, great nature hikes, interesting museum talking about the rice plantation, gift shop and lots of wildlife! The trails are easily marked and easy to walk.
This is a phenomenal location for nature lovers. There were so many beautiful birds. The staff was wonderfully friendly and informative. The walk around was filled with some of the best views and creatures big and small. I highly recommend this if you're in the Charleston area. This far exceeded expectations and was even better than our experience with the national forest.
First class birding and historical site. We had a fantastic time. Including seeing dozens of bird species including 3 woodpecker species, bald eagles and some lovely trees and plants. Highly recommended.
I’ve hiked at Caw Caw twice and have had excellent experiences both times. The fellas who were at the gate both times were friendly and informative. The trails are well maintained and there is so much to see! Be sure to check out the exhibits in the visitors’ center while you’re there.
Such a beautiful wildlife preserve that I highly recommend exploring if you have the chance! I went on a day where the ground was a little more wet, so I walked the trails by the rice plantation and was definitely not disappointed. It was a gorgeous day filled with sunshine and I was able to see two alligators and some baby gators as well! I also saw different birds / herons. The lady who was working was very kind to share some information about the alligators with me as well as the land itself. I am very happy I went and it was only $2!
There are many places to visit in Charleston and the surrounding area, but you must come here if you are interested in the nature that is the Low Country. The birds, animals, flora and fauna are displayed here. Take the morning bird watch that takes place each day from 8:30am-10am. Don’t forget to make a reservation. Love it!
Awesome hiking trail! There's a 2 dollar fee but we were able to see gators, vultures and had a volunteer show us their bald eagles through a telescope and binnoculars! We actually didn't expect to see anything besides the scenery but it was great that we found the extra wild life as a bonus! There is also a restroom in the beginning!
Where is the 10 star option?? This place was AMAZING! The Nature Center was SO cute - our 1.5 year old ran around while we looked at the displays and he loved the “Touch” station with lots of things he could feel and play with (turtle shells, snake skin, etc.). The trails were SO well done, easy to follow, fun to link up and connect. And we saw so much wildlife - alligators (12” babies, teenagers, adults - bigger and smaller), turtles, birds, really neat birds, frogs/toads, snakes! And this place was cool!! You could go from an old rice marsh to a dense forest in a matter of ten feet - I don’t think we’ll ever see anything else like it. It was incredible! And the park staff are so friendly - they helped us identify the snakes we saw and chatted with us about our trip. All around, this place was such a gem - and it was $2/adult, talk about affordable! They had a shop with patches, ornaments, and lots of other cool souvenirs too. And we had a picnic lunch packed and we ate at picnic tables nearby the parking lot. ABSOLUTELY COME HERE!
